Kristen Von Kreisler has written a wonderful book, “A Healing Justice”, showing the lessons that we can learn from our dogs. Andrea, an officer in the St Julian Police Department, takes in a stray German Shepherd Dog that she finds wandering near her home and in the ensuing months, trains him to be her drug sniffing partner. Then, in an instant, her world is shattered when her K-9 partner Justice is brutally attacked and Andrea must defend herself leaving a teenager mortally wounded. She is haunted by the events of that night, the ensuing police investigation, and headline seeking reporters.
Kristen gives a balanced and detailed narrative of the events and actions of the characters. The thoughts ring true – especially those of Justice (as any owner of a GSD can attest to!). The timing of reveals is good and keeps the story moving. She has a clear understanding of both dogs and their humans.

We watch as Andrea struggles with her guilt and doubt. Internal affairs and sensationalizing journalists are tearing her life apart. But watching her stalwart K-9 partner recover from grave physical injury and go on with his life is the example she needs to be able to move forward.

Kristen has written an engaging story with characters that you will care about. I didn’t want to put the book down until I knew how it all ended – and I have reread this book several times!
